David Cox moonlighted as an editorial cartoonist for 12 years during his working years, with 1,500 of his cartoons published, most of them in the Arkansas Democratic-Gazette. He did not venture into fine art until his 2025 retirement, after 45 years as a school teacher, newspaper editor, and camp director.
